Norway in the Antarctic

– From conquest to modern scienc
Norway has longstanding ties to the Antarctic. Roald Amundsen conquered the South Pole in 1911. Mapping and whaling dominated the years that followed. Norway lay claim to Dronnig Maud Land in 1939 and has played a central role in work related to the Antarctic Treaty since it was established in 1959. With the upgrading of Troll Station to a year-round facility in 2005, and the staging of the Internatioanl Polar Year in 2007–08, Norwegioan research in Antarctica entered a new phase.
This book describes the milestones of Norwegian acticities in the Antarctic.
